Sure Start Maternity Grant

A Sure Start Maternity Grant is a one-off payment to help with the cost of things for a new baby.

You should be entitled to it if you or your partner recieve:

Income Support or Employment Support Allowance Income Related, Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, Working Tax Credit (Must Include A Disability Element) or Child Tax Credit (Must Include More Than The Basic Family Element)

If YES to one, claim a Sure Start Maternity Grant.

We use partner to mean a person you are married to or a person you are living with as if you are married to them.

You do not have to pay a Sure Start Maternity Grant back.

You can claim from 11 weeks before the week your baby is due, until 3 months after the baby is born.

If you are adopting, your baby must be aged under 12 months. You should claim within 3 months of adopting.

A Sure Start Maternity Grant should be 500.

NOTE: From Jnauray 2011 you only get this 500 grant for your first child or only child under 16 in the household due to benefit cuts.

To claim contact your local Jobcentre+ or Social Security office for a claim form.
